Voluntary Minibus Driver
Green Community Travel Ltd
Driving one of our minibuses or accessible car to assist individual passengers and groups
Volunteers can choose whether they'd prefer to do trips or community groups, opportunities vary from local schools attending activities to older people going out for a meal or a day out. We also run trips which vary with destinations locally to further afield, volunteers are given expenses for refreshments/meals. Some bookings are longer than others, but volunteers can very much choose what suits them better, some vols prefer to only do schools whereas others enjoy the variety the trips can bring. Our buses are max 15 seats and accessible and we've got some lovely new vehicles as well!

Someone that enjoys driving is a benefit, we are seeking people that like meeting new people and enjoy talking with people. Many of our passengers live alone so conversation is a big and important part of the journey. Volunteers would enjoy meeting people of all walks of life and all ages! We are seeking volunteers who are kind and considerate and wish to help people. Someone who is comfortable driving within different areas is helpful, though we have sat navs. Drivers without a D1 on their licence could drive our lighter vehicles and drivers with a D1 can drive our heavier vehicles. Experience driving larger vehicles is beneficial though full training is provided.
Knowing they are making a real difference to the local community, from allowing children and young people to access extra curricular activities to taking a residents association out for a trip such as to the Mall. We also do our own trips and places can vary from local pub lunches and garden centres to further afield such as Cardiff, Burnham on Sea and more! Many of the older passengers would not have opportunity to go on these trips without Community Transport, as we pick up and drop off door to door it makes it a possibility for them. Similarly with people that need to travel in a wheelchair we can configure the buses so we can accommodate different numbers of passengers and wheelchairs, this makes a real difference to people's lives. We are completely flexible and volunteers can choose how often they do a journey, some drivers do something weekly and some do something monthly then some are ad-hoc so the flexibility can really fit around your life. We are a very welcoming and friendly team and enjoy working together, socialising and making a difference in the community.
Generally we get requests for weekdays, we have groups that occasionally travel in the evenings and weekends are rare. About 95% of our bookings fall Monday-Friday 9am-6pm

We cover a fairly large area of South Glos and this role can take volunteers further afield as the destinations can vary. The groups we collect are generally all based around South Glos.
We are not to far from the Codrington Arms and Fox Pub on North Road in Yate
