Walking Group Volunteer
Age UK South Gloucestershire
Short walks supporting older people experiencing barriers preventing them from keeping active.
We are working in partnership with Wesport reduce barriers to engaging in local activities (i.e. bereavements or ill health, resulting in a lack of confidence) through walking. Walking has amazing health benefits, is accessible and is a great way to reintroduce physical activity into daily life. Our short group walks are inclusive, flexible enough to adapt to older people's lives and abilities and act as a gateway to enjoying more regular physical activity. Each walk lasts approximately 1 hour and is followed up with a tea/coffee stop.

Volunteers need to be friendly, patient, empathetic and encouraging to those using the service.
Volunteers will gain people skills and find the work hugely rewarding by seeing client's confidence and physical abilities improve. There is an opportunity to be trained to become a Walk Leader. All volunteers are provided training and induction, and will be given the opportunity to do further training around safeguarding and dementia.
