Trustee opportunity for local almshouse charity. We also give grants within Thornbury and run Daggs.
The Trust owns properties in Thornbury and uses rental & investment income to support those in need with grants and Christmas gifts. We have four almshouses for local residents. Trustees should live or work in Thornbury, or have a special knowledge of Thornbury. Trustees meet 5 times a year on a Friday morning at Thornbury Town Hall for a meeting lasting up to two hours. At other times, Trustees are required to consider grant applications via email in order to come to an agreement about what help should be offered in each specific case. A great opportunity to make a difference in our area!

Basic IT skills - internet & email
The body of Trustees possess a range of knowledge and somebody with legal or financial knowledge would be helpful. However, anyone with a heart for Thornbury and who wants to give input, advice and ideas to the runnings of the charity would be a great asset. There are 5 main meetings at which Trustees discuss any issues or opportunities facing them to come to an agreement; there are also email conservations in-between these times, mainly relating to the giving of grants but also other topics such as the running of Daggs and almshouse maintenance.
The opportunity to get involved in Thornbury's oldest charity and help direct and ensure a sustainable long-term future.
Five mornings per year on a Friday (approx 2 hours), plus sporadic email discussions, possibly involving 1-2 hours per month - this may be slightly more if you choose to get involved in any of the subcommittees (property / finance). Some Trustees choose to get involved in additional tasks, such as checking the fire alarm at the almshouse, which would be 10 minutes on a rota basis - approx 1x month; or visiting Daggs to check on plots.
